HOKITIKA & THE WEST COAST
The town lies at the mouth of the Hokitika River, which rises in the Southern Alps and flows north 40 miles to meet the Tasman Sea. The town is virtually situated on Hokitika Beach, which is marked by the iconic driftwood ‘Hokitika’ sign, while on a clear day, the summit of Mount Cook/Aoraki can be seen looming behind the town.
In Hokitika you can enjoy the Hokitika beach, explore the glow worm caves on the edge of town, take a trip through the rock-sided Hokitika Gorge and take in the breathtaking West Coast landscape and beaches such as Bruce Bay and the Pancake Rocks.
The West Coast of the South Island stretches 600km from Westport to Haast and has some of the best untamed natural wilderness or rivers, rainforests, mountains, glaciers and geological treasures.

Perfect location, all the facilities of a hotel, like washstand in room, plus all the facilities of a backpackers, like a great kitchen, fridge, etc. The perfect combo. And lovely & quiet for tired travellers.

I loved it! The place is spotlessly clean. The hosts put me at ease immediately. The shower pressure is great 👍. It's got a cosy little lounge and kitchen for guests. The Wilderness Cycle Trail is 5 meters away on the other side of the road. More cyclists should use it.

Fantastic accommodation option only 10 minutes drive from Lake Kanaire. Expect a warm West Coast welcome from Grant the owner. Comfortable rooms with shared facilities. Everything fastidiously clean. Really fast internet. Will definitely be back.
